The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore. (PS 121: 5-8) Even in the worst of times God is always there to pick you back up and continue you on your road to greatness.

A Sorrowful Dance

By Edward Taylor III

A Sorrowful dance in the wind, performed by an excluded soul lost in sin, tears fall as pirouette’s call to the lost soul,

hopelessness twirls with blind perception, darkness calls with a malicious obsession.

Broken inside, strength subsides, to a sorrowful dance in the wind.

“Where is the comfort, the loving embrace, who will wipe these tears from my face?”

Under the stars you can see the dancer scarred:

Leaping to grasp the joy seemingly so far out of reach, distant as the mocking moon, silent & sweet,

Who is this that dances with sorrow in the wind?

The motions of this dancers’ gloom ignite the fierceness of question: “Where is my hope, where is my solace, where…

WHERE?”

The ground is struck, pounded by clinched fists,

“NO MORE!”

Is the cry as the dancer sits, drenched in sweat & self-regret: with eyes to the sky & arms raised the dancer is lifted up by the wind to dance once again,

Then a whisper is heard in the night sky:

“Hold on my dancer your salvation draws nigh”…

This poem is a culmination of things I went through, things I’ve heard, & things I witnessed other people go through in 2009. This poem for me was an outlet: a way for me to describe how difficult it was for many of us to keep going when so much was against us. I know for myself that if it wasn’t for God’s mercy; I probably wouldn’t be here writing this right now…just keeping it real… THANK YOU LORD!

2009

By Edward Taylor III

Picture seasons without smiles; only nights filled with tears accompanying sleep; seasons full of frustration & disappointments.

Long awaited promises depleting patience gripping to hope asking God-

“Will I make it”?

If I didn’t believe I surly would have fainted.

I’ve been told morning is coming, if you know the day I ask you,

“NAME IT”!

Seeking for the day when this pain lifts, the closer I get to the end the harder it seems, as I seek Refuge in my hiding place my peace departs from me.

my mind is haunted by the screams of those
travailing in the storm anticipating the birth of purpose.

One last breath before the matrix is broken & the cycle ends,

I see the breaking of the dawn,

Then I hear a voice say,

“Welcome to 2010”…

(Matt 5:16)“ Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

Be taken away by a peaceful escape from the hectic world around you, step into a place where the reflection of light awakens hidden beauty on a quiet shore, let it inspire you to let your light shine, & awaken the hidden beauty God has placed within you…

Reflection

By Edward Taylor III

The calm ocean waves reflect the blurry shimmer of moonlight as it struggles to penetrate the thick hazy sky. Clouds litter the midnight sky only allowing a glimpse at the striking beauty they conceal.

The stars are hidden by the collection of vapors heavy with the burden of rain, as the clouds move on, the night is transformed by a sudden burst of light, it overwhelms the eclipse of darkness displaying the nights hidden beauty;

The Oceanside comes to life with the crashing of glittering waves; the smooth sand sparkles like a sea of crystal shards, the rocks show their great strength as they stand as a barrier shielding this great treasure from the rest of the world.

My eye’s take in the majesty that is before me, words begin to flow through my mind exciting my imagination, I try to capture the right words to describe this scene of serenity–

(I begin to write)

“The moon mirrors the greatness of the sun reminding me of the great light that reflects out of me”….

This is a poem I found by Audre Lorde, Lorde’s first book of poems, The First Cities, was published in 1968. She spent six weeks as a writer-in-residence at Tougaloo College in Mississippi. This was of great important to Lorde’s life as she met Frances Clayton. From that point on, she and Frances shared their lives together. … to find out more about Audre Lorde go to famous poets and poems.com. Coal by Audre Lorde
I
is the total black, being spoken
from the earth’s inside.
There are many kinds of open
how a diamond comes into a knot of flame
how sound comes into a words, coloured
by who pays what for speaking.

Some words are open like a diamond
on glass windows
singing out within the crash of sun
Then there are words like stapled wagers
in a perforated book—buy and sign and tear apart—
and come whatever will all chances
the stub remains
an ill-pulled tooth with a ragged edge.
Some words live in my throat
breeding like adders. Other know sun
seeking like gypsies over my tongue
to explode through my lips
like young sparrows bursting from shell.
Some words
bedevil me

Love is word, another kind of open.
As the diamond comes into a knot of flame
I am Black because I come from the earth’s inside
Now take my word for jewel in the open light.

We all go through hard times in our lives, times when you feel like your never going to make it through, you feel like no one cares about you, you feel like there’s no hope: these are the times when you need to hold on to the hope you have & let go of your pride.

Struggle in Hard Times…

By Edward Taylor III

The poison of depression courses through my veins.

Its potency amplified by the raging storm of frustration.

Tears run off the edge of my cheek my eye’s feel like their on fire as the pain peaks.

LORD!

I need you!

Help me through this trial of life, I refuse to give in & lose this fight,

So I bow down abased before the throne of grace: my knees ache, my arms quiver, my body is frail as I cry out & travail.

Casting down the symbol of my authority I kneel, waiting for my deliverance to be seen: yielded & humbled is this crownless king;

Rescue me, oh KING of Kings, help me through these hard times seen;

LORD in my time of weakness I pray manifest strong & powerful.

Time overflows with cries that are heartfelt & sorrowful, my prayer seems to last forever, & yet my cry only takes up an hour full.

I always thought I was stronger, in my mind I was sure I’d last longer;

But that’s the deception isn’t it…To think you can make it on your own…Thank you GOD for never leaving me alone.

As Christians we go through a lot of diverse situations that try our integrity, but to uphold that great commandment to love thy neighbor as thy self (Matt 19:19), seems to be our greatest challenge at times. Instead of being real with one another we tend to hide our true feelings behind a simple smile…

Behind a Smile

LIMITLESS

There’s a lot behind a smile, have you ever considered “What could be”? Hidden behind a pleasant face that seems to possess joy that will never fade could lay pain so deep that tears can no longer express it only with a smile the face can confess it.

There’s a lot behind a smile, like a dagger dipped in hate: aimed at the center of your soul; as soon as you turn your back on the smile it uses the sharp edge of its tongue to pierce your flesh & sever your spine while smiling the hole time. There’s a lot behind a smile let me describe a few, there’s the one that say’s I’m better then you.

Then there’s the one that hides behind a grin :0) because the smile doesn’t want you to know it captured your husband. Then there’s the one that entices your wife, with only one motive, & that’s to ruin a wonderful life.

There’s also the one that’s truly genuine like the smile you receive from your children or like the one you may give to your best friend. You must realize a smile is fine, but only if it’s true,

with nothing hidden behind…

Sometimes as a Christian you can get so clouded with the issues of life that you are unable to see or even realize God’s purpose & intent for your life; which can leave your mind in a quandary, opening the door to fear & doubt, rendering you deaf & blind to the counsel & the guidance of God. This is why it is vital for you to quiet the rushing noise of busyness around you, stop, look, & listen that you may see which way your life is to go…

Which way is my life going?

LIMITLESS

Which way is my life going? I say I believe God yet my life doesn’t display his Kingdom, in fact it seems quite contrary. In the kingdom of God there is the abundance of life, an economy that never suffers lack, power to overcome all opposition, but in my life it looks like none of these attributes are in effect. Either I’m blinded from the truth or it’s because I can’t see through the thick fog of distractions that looms over my mind. In either case I’m presented with the same question” which way is my life going?” I look around searching each aspect of my life to find the imprint of God’s Kingdom. What I find are his footsteps that can be traced back through out my life, in every instance I found that it’s the word of God that has carried me, kept me, & preserved me in my way. His footsteps are woven into every victory, like a tapestry, his word is intertwined with the faith that overcomes the world. With one word from God my mindset was changed from despair to empowerment. The fog has lifted, my life has been set back into order, I can see my purpose, I can see who I am, now I can see where my life is going….

This is a poem from the great Langston Huges, You can feel the struggle & desire for freedom and equality in the tone of his writing, it’s a beautiful thing to peer into time through the eyes of some of history’s greatest writers. I hope you enjoy it…

Democracy by Langston Hughes
Democracy will not come
Today, this year
Nor ever
Through compromise and fear.

I have as much right
As the other fellow has
To stand
On my two feet
And own the land.

I tire so of hearing people say,
Let things take their course.
Tomorrow is another day.
I do not need my freedom when I’m dead.
I cannot live on tomorrow’s bread.

Freedom
Is a strong seed
Planted
In a great need.

I live here, too.
I want freedom
Just as you.

60 Seconds to Save a Soul… What would you say? This is a question I had to ask myself; do I know & could I present the gospel of Christ well enough to impact a life effectively in a short amount of time. When you read this picture yourself speaking to a complete stranger at a bus stop or a grocery store.

“60 seconds”

LIMITLESS

What if you only had 60 seconds to save a soul what would you say?

If a man had his hand extended to you reaching out for help would you let out a life-line?

Or would you leave him gasping for air while you watch him sink deeper into sin as he walks away never to be seen again?

What if you had 50 seconds to save a soul what would you say?

Would a thought cross your mind in the fleeting seconds of time?

Would you ask the LORD “What can I say to save this man”?

What if you had 40 seconds to save a soul what would you say?

Would you present Christ in an entreating way?

Would you tell him of the sovereignty of God?

Would you speak of God’s never changing character?

Or would you tell him “God can save you from your sins”?

Would you speak the words that will free him from his dishonor, loneliness, & shame? Would you extend comfort to relieve his pain?

Do you know Christ well enough to preach the Gospel that can redeem a soul, bringing a man to Christ that he may be made whole?

What if you had 30 seconds to save a soul what would you say?

What if the hearer rejected you & in doing so rejected Christ; would you still cast your pearls before swine?

Or would you tell him he’s like a dying grape at the end of a vine?

What if you had 20 seconds to save a soul what would you say?

Would you consider that enough time, knowing that one word from GOD can change a life, would you still preach the Gospel of Christ?

(10 seconds left…)

Or would you just pass by ignoring the cry, as you look at your watch, watching 60 seconds roll by???

I will be highlighting other poets that have made their mark throughout history as well as my own poems as I aspire to do the same, the first of these’s is a poem written by Emily Dickinson, I saw similarities in our writing styles which attracted me to this poem, the way she uses nature to paint a picture with her words is the reason I chose this poem; Please enjoy & feel free to comment on this if you’d like; let me know what you think about it.

There is another sky by Emily Dickinson
There is another sky,
Ever serene and fair,
And there is another sunshine,
Though it be darkness there;
Never mind faded forests, Austin,
Never mind silent fields –
Here is a little forest,
Whose leaf is ever green;
Here is a brighter garden,
Where not a frost has been;
In its unfading flowers
I hear the bright bee hum:
Prithee, my brother,
Into my garden come!
